Anna Watson completed her Honours degree at Department of Zoology, University of Melbourne in cardiovascular neurobiology following which she worked for two years at the Howard Florey Institute, Melbourne, and the German Institute of Human Nutrition, Potsdam, Germany, on the neurological basis of metabolic control. Following this she returning to the Howard Florey Institute to complete her PhD on the actions of cardiac sympathetic nerve activity in heart failure, and also the cardiovascular actions of the novel hormone urotensin II. In 2006 she moved into the field of diabetic cardiovascular and renal complications at Baker IDI and was subsequently awarded a NHMRC postdoctoral fellowship. She is currently funded by NHMRC New Investigator Project Grant to study the role of neural signalling in the development of diabetic nephropathy and hypertension.
