Dr Bianca Bernardo is a Senior Research Officer in the Cardiac Hypertrophy Laboratory at the Baker IDI Heart and Diabetes Institute. Dr Bernardo obtained her PhD from The University of Melbourne, where she studied key genetic and biological mechanisms of skeletal development and disease. Since then, she has broadened her research interest into studying physiological cardiac hypertrophy, and developing novel therapeutics to improve function of the failing heart (such as novel compounds or microRNAs). In 2012, she won the Ralph Reader Prize (Basic Science) for her research on microRNAs at the Cardiac Society of Australia and New Zealand National meeting. Bianca is also an avid road cyclist and takes part in cycling fundraising events to promote physical activity & exercise for heart health.
