Professor Kaye holds appointments as a Senior Cardiologist in the Heart Failure-Transplant Unit at the Alfred Hospital, Melbourne and is an NHMRC Senior Principal Research Fellow and Head of the Cardiology Division at the Baker IDI Heart and Diabetes Institute. His studies have identified a range of the fundamental mechanisms that contribute to the progressive nature of heart failure. Prof Kaye’s research has created a substantial portfolio of intellectual property related to the invention of novel medical devices. These have been the basis for the formation of three start-up companies, Osprey Medical which was listed on the ASX in 2012, whilst Cardiac Dimensions is a medical device company based in Seattle. The latest company, Cardiora is involved in the development of early stage drug therapy for the treatment of Heart Failure. Prof Kaye was awarded the Next Big Thing Award for Victorian Innovation in 2007 and the Eureka Prize for Medical Research Translation in 2012
