Louise has previously worked as the Senior Research Assistant for the Heart Foundation Research Centre at Griffith University for Prof. John Headrick. After working in this position for 3 years, Louise completed her PhD titled ‘Mechanisms and clinical utility of sustained ligand-activated preconditioning (SLP)’, which sought uncover the biochemical signalling pathways of a novel opioid therapy that leads to potent protection against the injury generated after a ischaemia/reperfusion. This novel therapy (SLP) is important because it protects both older and diseased hearts where conventional therapies typically fail.
