2025 National Cardiovascular Data Summit

We're just back from our National Cardiovascular Data Summit held in Canberra last Friday 27 June.Cardiovascular disease is still the leading cause of mortality in Australia and we see data playing an integral role in improving patient outcomes. The National Data Summit was born out of the desire to create a more comprehensive view of cardiovascular disease data in Australia and begin exploring how it could be improved for the future to deliver better cardiovascular care.It was a phenomenal day with over 80 experts, including policymakers, health system leaders, industry, and researchers, all in attendance to share, understand and discuss the national picture of cardiovascular data. The Summit was held over three sessions.
Session I: The Australian Health Data Landscape
We caught up on the current state of play in this session including Australian legislation, policies and a strategic overview. National and state representatives also shared data insights from their jurisdictions as well as First Nations data sovereignty and primary care initiatives.
Session II: Pragmatic Approach to Developing a National Minimum Dataset
This session was a collaborative discussion around how we might achieve alignment and become more coordinated, efficient, and economical in achieving a National Harmonised CVD Dataset.
Session III: Emerging Data Sources & Technologies
It's an exciting time for data and technology and this final session was a glimpse into future directions for Health Data Intelligence and what's possible with AI and advanced analytics. We are grateful for the involvement and participation of everybody on the day. Events such as this reinforce the role we have in our research community, to enable collaboration across the sector in tackling problems that can improve access and outcomes. We want to thank everyone who took part in the Summit, especially our advisory committee, speakers and facilitator - whose expertise and commitment to improving cardiovascular outcomes made the collaboration such a valuable experience.
