Our Heart's Mission
Our vision is a thriving, collaborative cardiovascular and stroke research sector that improves lives and delivers lasting health benefits to all Australians.

Where the ACvA Journey Began
In 2015, as funding for cardiovascular disease (CVD) research declined, leading clinician-researchers united to establish the Australian Cardiovascular Alliance (ACvA). Their mission was to secure research investment that better reflected the scale and impact of CVD - the leading cause of death in Australia.
The ACvA leadership recognised that funding alone couldn’t deliver meaningful change - and that addressing the major challenges in CVD requires innovative strategies and a nationally coordinated approach, including cross-sector collaboration and engagement.
In 2019, they secured initial funding to set up a small operations team with the remit to build a vibrant and connected CVD research community, united by the goal to reduce CVD in Australia.
Our Vision & Mission
We drive cross-sector collaboration to transform cardiovascular and stroke outcomes. We connect people and expertise to turn evidence into real-world solutions with lasting impact.
CVD is the #1 cause of death in Australia and globally.
Every 12 minutes one Australian dies from CVD.
CVD costs $14.3 billion in expenditure to the Australian health system.
Promote research collaboration to drive innovation and scientific advancement.
Build connections across the sector to unlock new perspectives and drive meaningful progress.
Lead coordinated national efforts to tackle major cardiovascular challenges with bold, system-wide solutions.
Serve as a united voice to influence policy and drive systemic change.
Advocate for continued research investment to maintain our momentum in tackling cardiovascular disease.
Challenge traditional healthcare models and drive innovative approaches.
