Driving Cross-Sector Collaboration for Cardiovascular Solutions

Our Clinical Themes Initiative focuses on addressing pressing health challenges through collaborative efforts and prioritisation.

Clinical Themes Initiative

The Australian Cardiovascular Alliance advocates for a collaborative and thriving cardiovascular and stroke research sector, that is data-driven to deliver better health outcomes and tangible economic benefits for all Australians.

Hypertension

High blood pressure is the leading risk factor for death in Australia and globally, yet it remains underdiagnosed and poorly managed. To tackle this, the ACvA and Hypertension Australia have launched the National Hypertension Taskforce, aiming to raise blood pressure control rates to 70% by 2030.

Stroke

Nearly half a million Australians live with the effects of stroke. Australian stroke rehabilitation still has key gaps in policy, clinical practice and funding. To address this the ACvA and the Australian Stroke Coalition are developing a national framework for action.

Heart Failure

Heart failure often develops gradually from conditions like heart attacks, high blood pressure, or valve damage. It frequently co-exists with frailty and exacerbates the impact. To address this, the ACvA is supporting an AI project to detect frailty in heart failure patients.

Coronary Artery Disease

Coronary artery disease is the leading single cause of death in Australia. ACvA’s national workshop has identified key research priorities, focusing on reducing regional and rural outcome disparities through targeted, place-based workshops.
