National Data Roundtable - Tracking Blood Pressure Control in Australia

On Thursday 25 June 2026, more than 30 representatives from across Australia came together in Sydney for our Tracking Blood Pressure Control in Australia National Data Roundtable. The roundtable, generously sponsored by Novo Nordisk, Servier and AstraZeneca, brought together experts from academia, government, industry, peak bodies, clinical practice and the health sector to explore the datasets that can support the measurement and monitoring of blood pressure control, and to develop a practical blueprint for tracking the National Hypertension Taskforce's progress.

The roundtable featured two presentation sessions, showcasing the breadth of work already underway to improve the measurement and monitoring of blood pressure control in Australia.

Session 1: Blood Pressure Measurement Data explored the current landscape of blood pressure measurement, with presentations covering primary care datasets and data linkages, as well as opportunistic blood pressure measurement programs. Presenters included:

  • Heidi Dietz, Australian Institute of Health and Welfare
  • Cassandra Gligora, Australian Institute of Health and Welfare
  • Damien Cordery, NSW Health
  • Kim Greaves, Sunshine Coast Hospital and Health Service
  • James Sharman, Menzies Institute for Medical Research
  • Markus Schlaich, Hypertension Australia
  • Lisa Murphy, Stroke Foundation
  • Patrick Hannebery, SiSU Health

Session 2: Blood Pressure Medication Data focused on prescribing patterns and medication adherence. Presenters included:

  • Dani Li, MedAdvisor

We’d like to thank all presenters for generously sharing their expertise, every participant for their thoughtful contributions and our sponsors. The discussions from the roundtable have created a list of actions for the next phase of work to improve the monitoring of blood pressure control across Australia.
